Keith Jemison

– 4th VP, Texas A & M Univ LE & Security, Assoc Vice Chancellor

Dr. Keith Jemison is a dedicated law enforcement professional with over 25 years of public safety experience. Previously, he has served as Police Chief (Associate Vice Chancellor) at Alamo Colleges District, Associate Vice Chancellor for Law Enforcement and Security at Texas A&M University System, Associate Vice President for Public Safety & Police Chief at Prairie View A&M University, and Police Chief at Montgomery ISD.  Additionally, he served as Assistant Police Chief for the city of Missouri City for many years.    

Dr. Jemison's command experiences have included operations, administration, and support services.  More specifically, these areas have consisted of police records, criminal investigations & crime analysis, dispatch, facilities, law enforcement technology, a multi-city public safety radio system, budgets, professional standards & internal affairs, training & professional development, grant management, and TPCA accreditation.  His portfolio has also included responsibility for EMS, physical and contract security, parking enforcement and parking management, as well as the lock and key shop and fire marshal's office.   

A proud veteran of the United States Army's 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), Dr. Jemison holds a Bachelors (BA) degree in Criminal Justice Administration, a Master's (MA) degree in Political and Justice Studies, and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Interdisciplinary Leadership with a concentration in Public Safety Management.  Dr. Jemison holds a Master peace officer certificate and is a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP) at the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), Northwestern University's School of Police Staff  and Command (SPSC), the FBI National Command College (NCC), Penn State's Police Executive course (POLEX), the United States Department of Homeland Security's Executive Leadership Academy, and  Harvard University's Senior Leaders in State and Local Government. 

In addition to working as guest lecturer in multiple programs at the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT), Dr. Jemison carries several instructor level certifications including Firearms Instructor, FBI Instructor, TCOLE Instructor, Crisis Intervention Instructor, ALICE Instructor. He holds certifications for mental health peace officer, Crime Prevention Inspector & Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) practitioner, and forensic investigative hypnosis.   

Dr. Jemison's memberships include the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), the Texas Police Chief's Association (TPCA), the American Federation of Teachers, the national Criminal Justice Honor Society, the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society, and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA).   

Dr. Jemison's career is marked by significant milestones including leading the first state HBCU in Texas to TPCA accreditation and being a TCOLE training provider, being named 2019 Chief of the Year for region 6, starting Montgomery ISD Police Department, and being the 44th person in the nation to be awarded the FBI-LEEDA Management Trilogy Award.  Dr. Jemison sits on the advisory board for several programs including the East Texas A&M Competency Based Baccalaureate degree program and has served as keynote speaker for several events.
