Having served over 32 years in law enforcement, Raul Vargas started his career as a Deputy Constable in McAllen with the Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office, then moving on as a police officer with the City of Mission Police Department and then the City of Carrollton Police Department, before joining the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1986. He has promoted through the ranks to his current position of Major, Texas Highway Patrol, assigned to the Capitol Complex – Region VII in Austin. He has worked as a Trooper in Bay City, El Campo, McAllen; a Sergeant in Brownsville; a Lieutenant in Beaumont; a Captain in Austin (Capitol and District Office).
Major Vargas attended Pan American University in Edinburg and is a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute – Administrative Officer’s Course and the Texas Governor’s Center for Management Development – Excellence in Leadership Series.
Major Vargas believes in Professional Development through continuous training, Accountability, Servant Leadership, Mentoring, Community Involvement, and Leading by Example. He has been a member of TPA since 2005.
